April 2010

March I ended up with 13 silver coins... Highest amount I've recovered in 30 days... Additionally I gatherd 79 Wheat pennies and 2 large coppers...

April 3rd (Saturday)

Hunt #17: I headed to a new location that I had driven by many times...

7 Silver Coins and a Silver Pendant - Record Silver Day...  *HAPPY DANCE*

After all the rain and flooding this week I got out today to wet grounds to start the day... it was high 50's low 60's... with the sun shinning, blue skies and no wind... Nice nice day for detecting...

The clad and wheaties were flowing right away... 10 minutes in I got a loud quarter on the surface signal... but it ended up being sterling...

I am not catholic, and please no offense is meant... but when I read this I was thinking... If I've been stabbed, shot, poisoned, seperated from an appendage, knocked or beaten unconscious, run over by a tractor mower, or generally about to bleed to death.... PUH-LEASE CALL 9 FREEKING 11 !!

It wasn't much further into the hunt when I got a nice solid quarter signal @ 6" range... and ground under the grass is mud! It stucking to everything...  I was wet from my knees to my toes... but the warm sun felt good... out it popped!

1939 Washington... This one saw a few years of circulation...

1939 Washington Silver Quarter (Silver #34)

I got to a dryer corner and popped the plug in a nice 12/45 signal...

I like it when you flip out the plug and you can see shiny :-)

1943 Mercury Silver Sime (Silver #35)

Next came...

1947 Roosevelt Silver Dime (Silver #36)

I had a 12/45 signal @ 3" and I really was expecting a shallow memorial...  but I flipped out the plug and got the probe in the hole and the target was deeper and higher pitched now... so I took out some dirt and I could see a silver rim... it it was larger that a dime... and I knew immediately then that there was more than one target in the hold... I got out the quarter and the probe was still sounding off :-)

Mr. Roosevelt....

1962 Roosevelt Silver Dime (Silver #39)

The date on this '62 looks double struck...

That '62 Roosie put me @ 39 for the year... that was the total number of silver I had dug for last year... I had to get one more!

It took about 15 minutes longer to get the 7th silver bringing my total to 40 for the year!

1959 Roosevelt Silver Dime (Silver #40)

There were 18 wheat pennies in the mix as well...

103 coins total for the day! :-)

April 4th (Sunday)

Hunt #18: It was Easter Sunday and I knew I could sneak in a little hunt before din din :-)

This was a semi solid 12/47 at 3-4"... I was figuring a clad quarter... but was shinnier :-)

1934 Washington Silver Quarter (Silver #41)

20 minutes later I had the typical solid quarter just under the grass signal.... but I thought this was a washer at first, but it was heavier...

Hunt #21: Back from Vegas and was charged up to get out digging today...  I was ducking in and out of the car due to rain showers... Dig for 30 minutes... in the car for 5, dig for 20 minutes, in the car for 10...  but hey I was swinging and digging :-)

Let just call this day.... 1 Little, 2 Little, 3 Little Indians...

The first indian head I got had a 1920 Wheatie in the hole and right below them was a forged rusting nail... It wasn't a great signal, but enough that I investigated and decided to dit it and I'm glad I dig :-)

These pennies still need a little more cleaning, but for Indians they are in great shape for New England digs...

1901 Indian Head Penny...

Next one out is nice and green...

1900 Indian Head Penny...

Then the 3rd one is the oldest...  It still has a layer of dirt on it, but the Liberty is clear and you can see the green underneath...

1881 Indian Head Penny...

After a little clean up.... 3 Little Indians...

19th Century Brass Wedding Ring...

There were 9 Wheats in the hix from 1920 to 1950...

April 27th (Tuesday)

Hunt #25: I got to a new location of a building from the late 20's early 30's... I was dodging the rain in the beginning of the hunt, but wheat pennies were flowing quickly...

I was hoping for some silver, but I need to go back with the 6X8 coil and go through all of the trash... I was just cherry picking for this initial hunt...

15 Wheat Pennies from 1919 to 1950's...

This was a solid 12/46 in all directions @ 6" and I was so hoping for a silver quarter... but a large copper instead...

April 29th (Thursday)

Hunt #26: This was my 2nd hunt at this site (27th hunt from above was the 1st).  I was hoping for some silver with the amount of wheat pennies I had dug perviously...

Targets were fewer for this hunt... but I did manage one silver in the lot....
