Who cares that that furry little rodant said... Winter is over... or so I could hope :-)

July 23rd (Friday)

Hunt #40: I hit a town park that I had never tried before... The soil was a mix of fill, yellow sand, and some good old dirt...

This was one spot in it that was producing, and that was the spot with the good and old dirt...

I was getting a spotty 12/47 signal @ 8-10"

Not much on this side... Just one small line...

But the obverse has some minor detail... enough to answer the question... What is it ??

Well if you look to the right side at about 4pm... You can see the bottom of the wreath and the number 1 with a line under it...

Weight of the coin is just over 10 grams...

And if I compair that small line on photo one with the back of the head...

The coin is a Draped Bust Large Cent (1796 - 1807)

Below is a coin for Compairison...

Next out was what appears to be a seal from Central Vermont Rail Way...

A few targets later... Hello Mr. 1924 Buffalo Nickle...

Next keeper was a Toasted Indian Head Fatty! As you can see on the left...
There is no shield at the top that is common to all Indian Head Pennies....
Except 1859 and 1860... Those years are alo thicker coins... Hence the nick-name Fatties

Next keeper is a 1906 Indian Head Penny... (Indian Head Penny #9 for the year)
You can tell that head side was facing up and took more environmental Damage...

Hunt #41: I headed down the shore after work and stopped at a small town green... Its not very big...

The coins were flowing... but mostly newer to start...

This I got a 12/45 that was shallow and I was expecting a new dime...

Hello Mercury Dime...

1940 D Mercury Head Silver Dime (Silver #55)

After 3 or 4 more wheat pennies...

Nice 12/47 singing silver sound @ 1"...

Mans Large Sterling Silver Ring... (Sterling Silver Jewelry Piece #7 for 2010)

Hunt #42: I headed to a new town to check out the greens, schools, and parks..

This hunt pushed me over 1800 coins, including 250 wheat pennies, 10 indian heads, 55 silver coins, and 4 large coppers, for the 2010!

At first I was only finding modern coins... Then I hit a 1909 wheat penny @ 2"...

Then a second, and a third wheatie...

12/35 signal @ 5"... I was expecting a zinc pennie that was corroding...

1905 Indian Head Penny... (Indian Head # 10 for 2010)

This was a solid 12/45 @ 5" and I was 90% sure it was silver by the sound...

I was expecting a coin... but silver is silver :-)

Sterling Silver Pennant... (Sterling Silver Jewelry Piece #8 for 2010)

Hunt #43: I hit a school and a state park today... It was 80ish... and not to humid...

But... I still got a little red from all of the direct sunlight :-)

Well... nothing super old coin wise... 4 wheat pennies... but I did did lots of old lead ball...
