June 2011

May 2011 was a strong month with 1 Buffalo, 16 Indian Head Pennies, 6 Large Coppers, 8 Silver Coins, and a nice Civil War 1863 Token...  I am way way way behind my silver numbers for last year... aboub 30 behind right now and need to kick up the silver if I want to have a shot at hitting 100 for the year...

June 2nd (Thursday)

Hunt #40: I headed back to the park that I've title as Indian Park because the 30+ Indian Head Pennies that is has produced over the last year for me...

I send my wife so many pictures of Indians heads from this park she has accused me of sitting at the bar and resend her the same pictures over and over... :-P

1902 Indian Head (IH #39 for 2011) popped out next from 6" range...

and the last one I almost needed a flash light to recober... but I had the most solid 8/35 @ 7-8"...
I was 100% sure this was an IH... and my 40th for 2011!

1891 Indian Head (IH #40 for 2011)

This token is in rough spade... I'm assuming a fund raiser item from the 1910-1920's *shrug*

June 4th (Saturday)

Hunt #41: I hit a spot I've been eyeing and Don't think its ever been hit... I got to about 30-35% of the place... First 4 digs... Wheat, wheat, wheat, sterling ring... I know the site was going to be good :-)

4th target was a solid quarter signal @ 3-4" that turned out to be...

Sterling Silver Ring with turquise triangle insets...

Wheats and lots of clad was flying up out of the ground...

This silver was 6" down and was a 12/44 12/45 signal...

I got about an hour and 45 minutes there tonight...

This 12/46 signal was solid @ 6" with nothing around it and popped out this shinny...

1944 Washington Silver Quarter (Silver # 31 for 2011)

June 10th (Friday)

Hunt #44: Storms kept my in the last two night here... but I got out for a lunch hunt as our 4th child has a concert to night we will be attending and I was needing a fix.... badly :-)

It is 86 deg... yowers!

I nabbed another 7 wheat backs... That brings me to 134 for the year...
I'm definately behind in silver and wheaties from this point last year... but up in Coppers and Indians...

I wasn't there 5 minutes... 12/46 12/47 @ 4"... Not very deep...

This puppy is beat up... but its mine now :-) 1934 Washington Silver Quarter (Silver # 32 for 2011)

About 30 minutes later this was a 12/44 to 12/47 signal @ 7"... Sure did sing like silver...

June 12th (Sunday)

Hunt #45: Its been 10 days since I hit Indian Park... I've been working the new Honey Hole that netted me 10 pieces of silver and a couple of sterling Rings...

Its been raining for the last almost 2 days here... rained hard and long so I wanted to hit Indian Park as soon as it was over...

I brought the camera today and recorded the sounds, beeps, screens, and recoveries... I'll get the video up tonight...

I wasn't there 5 minutes and had a nice deep 37 conductive... I was not thinking this was a copper...

Looks like 1878

I recovered a few little relic items but the rest of the 1st 90 minutes was quite as far as nice keepers go...
I hit Dunkin Donuts for a quick bio break...

I came back... got out of the car and started the strip right next to the sidewalk next to my car...
2 minutes.... 12/44 12/45 @ 5-6"

1903 Barber Silver Dime... (Silver # 33 YTD)

I was getting worried as it was another 60 minutes... a few buttons... a clip...

Nicer Button: 12/26 @ 6-7"

Then... 9/32 @ 5" wahoo... I was pretty sure Indian...

1887 Indian Head Penny (IH # 41 YTD)

10-12 minutes later... This was a 9/37 8/39... but I was still pretty sure Indian...

1908 Indian Head Penny (IH # 42 YTD)

June 17th (Friday)

Hunt #47: 1st outting this week was Friday night... I hit the park @ 5:32... and it rained most of the day and looked like there was more coming... I ended up with almost 3 hours before it was raining hard enough to drive me out...

I don't think I have gotten less than 2 Indians from any visit here for a long time... and today was no exception...

I got out of the car and started on the strip between the sidewalk and the road and 1st target... dime @ 3"

1940 Mercury Dime... (Silver # 34 YTD)

Wheaties where popping pretty shallow on the stip as well...

Then I moved into the park at the top of the area I've worked over and over...
The top is a lot trashier than the botton...

7-35 to 9-35 @ 2-3" I was think with the low ferrous it could be... but a Indian this shallow??

1897 Indian Head Penny... (IH # 43 for 2011)

Next IH was an iffy signal @ 6-7"

1895 Indian Head Penny... (IH # 44 for 2011)

June 18th (Saturday)

Hunt #48: I had plans to spend the day out swinging and digging... but my son came in from Boston friday night to sprise me for fathers days... So if was fun to hang out with him and do some stuff... He then went off to have dinner with some old friends... that afforded me a little dig time late in the day... It was close to 90 and good thing if was later in the day as it was cooling off...

Nothing to exciting for the hunt as far as keepers go...
I had a nice little chat with a few passer buyers... and enjoyed my time in the park...

My 1st keeper was a deeper iffy 10-17 conductive target...
I was hunting in TTF with line 1 open 41-47 and 27 and below disc'd out...

1915 Buffalo Nickel...

I thought this next target was a nice deep IH... It was conductive no's 33-37...

Pin - Hat Pin - ??

I recovered a few wheaties and some clad and was starting to think the day
was going to be a little thin for keepers...

Then I was in a sandy dirt area that was dry and got a signal that had bight spots that
bounced up to 47 conductive and sounded shiny...

5" down... 1945 Mercury Dime... (Silver # 35 YTD)

June 19th (Sunday)

Hunt #50: I headed down the shore to two spot about an hour away... I had been to one of these spots and few times... Its yielded 10-15 pieces of silver... the oldes being an 1892 Barber Quarter...

It did not take to long for the first 12/45 @ 5-6".... that sounded pretty sweet...

1949 D Roosie Silver Dime... (Silver # 36 YTD)

90 minutes of clad and some deep pennies...

I was working my way back to the car to hit the 1nd location and I nabbed this huge token!

Scout Token

2nd location... within 5 minutes I had a signal that was bouncing 4-6" 41 to 47 conductive...
and at times sounded silver shiny...

4-5" I get a Memorial... but wait... there is still a signal in the hole :-)

Sterling Silver Ring

20 minutes later.... 1945 Mercury Silver Dime... (Silver # 37 YTD)

My last recovered target was screeming 5/48 @ 5-6" in both directions...

Copper/Brass Pocket Watch...
