November 2010

October was 3+ weeks of travel for work... So the numbers were down... but overall was still a decent month...  I got in 8 hunts...  9 Silver coins, hit 100 Silver coins for the year on Oct 10th!, a nice 10 gram Sterling Cross, 1 Large Copper, 35 wheat backed pennies, and I got to detect on Salt Lake!

November 1st (Monday)

Hunt #92/93/94:  These finds are from Salt Lake City! I got to hunt a park (Memory Park) and then went out to an old swimming hole on Salt Lake...

I also got to hit a huge park downtown... after the Lake hunt... That park was strange to detect at... I just can't explain all the strange huge iron, or what seemed like hundreds of sprinkler heads.... *shrug*

After calling Salt Lake City and learning that city parks were to hunt I settled on Memory Park...
I turned on the E-Trac... Noise Cancelled... put the coil down and wham... 12/45 @ 3"

 1942 S Mercury Silver Dime (Silver Coin # 104 for 2010 and # 1 for November 2010)

November 7th (Sunday)

Hunt #95:  November 7th, 1960... the day I as born... So.... 50 big ones!

I was 45ish... heading for 50 degrees fot the day... perfect detecting weather...

I needed 6 wheat backed pennies to hit 400 for the year... Additionally I was 12 coins short of 3,000 coins for the year...

I wanted to hit both of these objectives today and recover some silver if possible :-)

I recovered 75 coins for the day, pushing me to 3,063 coins for the year...

I recovered 8 Wheat Backed Pennies to bring the 2010 total to 402!

The wheat backed pennies we coming fairly steady... Clad as piling up... I knew there was some silver here...

12/45 @ 6"...

 1943 Mercury Silver Dime (Silver Coin # 105 for 2010 and # 2 for November 2010)

5 minutes after the 1943 Merc... this 12/44 12/25 signal was not as deep @ 4" range..

 1942 Mercury Silver Dime (Silver Coin # 106 for 2010 and # 3 for November 2010)

November 28th (Sunday)

Hunt #96:  The last 60 days of my life have been busy busy busy... Been to Wichita, Tulsa, Salt Lake City, Houston, Dallas, San Antanio, and Mesquite for work...  Then Back to Dallas 2 weeks ago to see the Cowboys... Lots of family over for the holidays...

All that being said... I've not got in much detecting lately...  I did get my new DF PI, Waders, Scoop.. and ventured into the water for 60 minutes... that is VERY different from land detecting...

So SundayI had to drive my Son back to Boston this AM and stopped in the town that yielded me the 2 Large Cents from the same hole...

I recovered a few early spoons, a wheat, some clad... then a keeper appeared about 45 minutes in...

1907 Indian Head Penny... (Indian Head Penny # 24 for 2010)

After a few more wheat pennies...

1936 Mercury Silver Dime (Silver Coin # 107 for 2010 and # 4 for November 2010)

I was almost 3 hours into the hunt what this 12/45 12/46 @ 6" BANG BANG signal popped...

Turned 90 degrees... same... This sight has been pretty worked over... how could this have been missed??

This is my oldest silver coin to date!

1832 Cap and Rays 8 Real (Silver Coin # 108 for 2010 and # 5 for November 2010)

There is just enough of the 1832 there to make out the date...

Another Indian appeared right after this:

1899 Indian Head Penny... (Indian Head Penny # 25 for 2010)

Next keeper was another obvious silver signal...

1947 Roosevelt Silver Dime (Silver Coin # 109 for 2010 and # 5 for November 2010)
